Cynthia Hankerson, owner of Tastebuds Presents Cynful Treasures on York Street, offered a visitor a plastic cup of sweetened iced tea a on recent balmy afternoon. Her usual array of baked goods had been decimated by a group from the Secaucus post office. The red velvet cupcakes, cream cheese dough cookies and chocolate chip with pecan cookies were all memories. But the smells from her oven—Hankerson also has done catering and designs wedding cakes—promised there were more goodies to come.

"My shop is the kind of place you would find in New York," Hankerson says. "It's like the Magnolia Cafe or the Cupcake Factory. People around here have responded well."

Hankerson has been at her location just off the end of Grove Street for a couple of years now. Her shop is one of the newest additions to the bustling downtown area.
